Why I Fish...

Why I Fish...

I’ve been looking forward to the weekend, where most of my time is spent outside fishing. After a long week there is nothing I enjoy more than the solitude (and silence) and getting out onto the water to unwind. Dropping a line helps me unplug from the daily hustle of life.

I often think the world would be a better place if we all just fished more.  It calms the mind and allows you to connect with nature, breathe fresh air and feel restored.

My fishing essentials are pretty simple, don’t get me wrong, I love the gear (that’s for another blog) but I can enjoy it just the same with my rod, tackle bag, my dog and a can of Schmitty’s.  I swear I fish better with a big dip of moist snuff between my cheek and gum. And now since Pam made her own, without any tobacco or Nicotine, I don’t have to hide my can anymore.  In fact, I use my old pucks to hold my loose hooks and swivels, pre-tied leaders, fire starter material and even material repair items for my waders and rafts.

Have you ever noticed that getting up for work early usually involves pressing snooze a few times, but getting up early to fish is a whole different story—I always end up waking up before my alarm and often before the sun is up.

This weekend, I headed out to float on the lake all day, sun shining, singing my favorite song in my head (do y’all do that?), and spending some time with the turtles and birds. For me, fishing is more than just the catch, don’t get me wrong I want to catch fish, big fish, but I’ve learned with age that just being there is what I love.

I don’t know about you, but most days all I can think about is where I am going to fish this weekend and what flavor of Schmitty’s snuff I want to bring along with me on my adventure. All three flavors, original, wintergreen, and mint, taste like the real deal. You really can’t go wrong with any flavor you choose.

Tight Lines,

Schmitty
